An Overview of Isis Cricket Club

Isis Cricket Club play exclusively non-league cricket among a collection of like-minded clubs across the Oxfordshire area. Our fixture list reflects a traditional village and social cricket culture, with opponents drawn largely from a compact local catchment extending from Enstone and Minster Lovell in the west, through Oxford and Bicester, to Stonor and Ipsden on the Chiltern edge.

The club was formed in 1987 when captains from two depleted works teams — Southern Electricity Board and British Telecom — who both used the Queens College Sports Ground as a home venue, found themselves consistently unable to field full sides. Members from both teams came together at an inaugural AGM to form Isis Cricket Club, named after the historically-named stretch of the River Thames upon whose banks the ground is situated. Throughout our history, membership has been drawn from friends, workmates, family members, former opponents and anybody else finding us through the web, reputation or recommendation.

Annual membership is typically between 25 and 30 players of mixed ages, who rotate to fulfil a fixture list of around 40 matches per season between mid-April and mid-September. Fixtures are split broadly evenly between weekend and midweek cricket. While our principal home ground is the magnificent Queens College Sports Ground, competition for availability means we occasionally make use of the pitch at Stanton St John as a secondary venue.

We always play to win — because the beer tastes better afterwards — but we remain inclusive and fair in selection, and aim to provide regular opportunities for everybody involved. The club is administered by an elected committee of volunteer members, and our operating model is available to review and download from the Site Directory.

If you are interested in joining the club, please visit the Membership Fees and How to Join page, accessible from the Site Directory. For further information, or if you are seeking fixture opportunities, please email the club. Thank you for your interest.
